Late drama brings derby delight

Seaford 1 Newhaven 2, SCFL Premier Division match #34, Friday 3 rd April 2026 The first of two Easter Bank Holiday derby’s took place on Good Friday evening, as the Dockers visited Seaford looking to extend their run of consecutive league victories to three. This was the fourth meeting between the two local rivals this season, with Newhaven twice getting the better of Seaford in cup competitions, but Seaford gaining a measure of revenge by taking all three-points in the reverse league fixture at Fort Road back in November. On that occasion Seaford executed their gameplan to perfection, coming back from a goal down to take a thoroughly deserved three-points against a visibly frustrated Newhaven side. No doubt the Dockers would have been expecting an equally tricky encounter this time around. And that’s exactly what they got. On a very blustery evening which made The Crouch’s already notoriously testing surface even more so, both sides struggled to get a foothold in the game...

Below-par Dockers punished by neighbours

Seaford Town 1 Newhaven 0, RUR Cup First Round Most of you, at least those of you of a certain vintage, will have probably heard the phrase “After the Lord Mayor’s Show’ before. It’s often said following a disappointing or mundane event occurring straight after an exciting, magnificent, or triumphant event.  Therefore, Newhaven’s visit to Seaford last night can very much be described as having the feel of being ‘after the Lord Mayor’s Show’ about it. In theory, a local derby against lower division Seaford – I’m going to resist the urge to refer to them as The Harriers – should have been the ideal opportunity for the Dockers to build on their impressive performance in the FA Cup of Saturday . Especially given that our neighbours had humbled us 4-2 in our own backyard during pre-season. But that was only a friendly. Surely a competitive match would yield a different outcome. Wouldn’t it? Unfortunately (for us), Newhaven never really going at The Crouch, in the ope...

Dockers ease to Steve Charman Cup victory

Seaford Town 0 Newhaven 2, Pre-season friendly #4 At the risk of sounding too much like a broken record, the Docker’s latest pre-season friendly once again took place in weather conditions more suited to an afternoon lounging at the beach rather than one chasing a football around a pitch. As the Channel 9 weather-lady from The Fast Show would no doubt have said, it was ‘Scorchio’ (yet another topical reference for the Come On You Dockers blog, there). For the third time in a week, though, Newhaven made light of the blistering-hot weather by controlling the ball and making their opponents do all the hard work. Clever tactics if you’ve got the players to pull it off. Which, at present, the Dockers certainly seem to have. In honour of the late Newhaven club stalwart, Steve Charman, Newhaven’s annual friendly with neighbours Seaford Town now sees the two teams competing for the Steve Charman Cup.  There was an added poignance to today’s match as well, with a minute's applause t...
