Newhaven beaten in local derby

Newhaven 1 Seaford 3, SCFL Premier Division match #17, Saturday 22 nd November 2025 In a week that had seen two very different, but equally impressive Dockers performances, it was hoped that a home derby against Seaford Town would enable us to finish the week in style. The signs going into the game were positive. Newhaven had already hosted Seaford twice this season in cup competitions, winning both with a minimum of fuss. In fairness, since the second of these two victories, Seaford have had an upturn in results, and went into this match with three wins from their last four games to currently sit firmly in midtable. Yet Newhaven will have been fully confident of making it three wins from three yesterday afternoon. And after 15 minutes, it would have taken a brave person to bet against them doing so. The Dockers were already a goal to the good by this point and looking supremely comfortable, dominating possession and staving off Seaford’s counter attacks without too much of ...

Worthing’s class shows, but Dockers brilliant in defeat

Newhaven 0 Worthing 3, Sussex Senior Cup Round 3, Tuesday 18 th November 2025 Newhaven faced one of their biggest matches in many-a-year last night when they welcomed National League South side Worthing to Fort Road in the Sussex Senior Cup. For the past few seasons, Worthing have consistently been Sussex’s top-performing non-league side, with aspirations of eventually making the jump to full professional level. This was always going to be a monumental test for a very young Dockers side; even more so given the strong starting 11 the visitors fielded, and the electric run of form they are currently on. Let’s make no bones about it, Worthing are a good side. A very good side. Right from kick-off that much was clear to see. Their speed of movement and thought - both on and off the ball - made it seem like, whether defending or attacking, they always had an extra player on the park. There’s a reason the Rebels are currently, and have for the past few seasons been, challenging for ...

Fine Howard-Bold free-kick gets us over the line (just)

Newhaven 1 Pagham 0, SCFL Premier Division match #16, Saturday 15 th November 2025 The start of a big seven days for the Dockers, which includes a local derby and a match against a National League South side, kicked off with a league match yesterday afternoon against Pagham. The Lions came into the match flying-high in fifth-place and boasting the second-best defensive record in the division; just 11 goals conceded from their opening 14 matches. With us being just outside the play-off places at the moment, this was a real test of our play-off aspirations. If we’re going to make a prolonged run at the top five, we need to take points from the teams also battling for those places. The first-half of this match was cagey to say the least. Fairly boring would be another way of putting it. Pagham created the game’s best early openings; twice shooting off target when in dangerous positions. The visitors also had the ball in the net just past the half-hour mark, only for the goal to...

Goals galore as Dockers win again

Newhaven 6 Lingfield 3, SCLF Premier Division match #15, Saturday 8 th November 2025 Having bounced back to winning ways with a win at Lancing seven days ago, Newhaven hoped to keep the run going with a match against another team at the wrong end of the table yesterday. However, as is often the case when we seem to face strugglers, Lingfield had played themselves into a bit of form last weekend, winning 2-1 against play-off contenders Bexhill United. And it was the visitors who made the perfect start yesterday afternoon, taking the lead inside the opening minute. Needless to say, we only had ourselves to blame, as a loose pass was seized upon by Deven Reid-Solanki and the skillful winger made no mistake, driving forward before finding the bottom corner with a calm finish. Reid-Solanki was to cause us numerous problems throughout the afternoon, giving one of the best individual performances I’ve seen from an opposition player at Fort Road. Fortunately, though, he was just about...

Dockers back to winning ways

Lancing 1 Newhaven 3, SCFL Premier Division match #14, Saturday 1 st November 2025 After a tough October which saw the Dockers play a host of league fixtures against teams who are likely to be vying for the play-offs, they started November with a trip to bottom-of-the-table Lancing. However, while on paper this may looked a more straightforward assignment, the reality was very different. Under new management, Lancing have shown clear signs of improvement in recent weeks, and went into the game on the back of a morale-boosting 5-2 victory over Shoreham. The Dockers, on the other hand, had lost their past three matches, shipping 11 goals in the process. Yet it was Newhaven who made the brighter start, hitting the front after just two minutes. Harry Hammond intercepted a clearance, threaded the ball into the path of Ryan Blunt, and Blunty found the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Newhaven continued to be on the ascendancy for much of the early exchanges, continually ...
