Late goal gets Dockers over the line

Newhaven 3 Shoreham 2, SCFL Premier Division match #7, Tuesday 23 rd September 2025 Having suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season (albeit one by penalty shoot-out), all eyes were on the (mainly) young Dockers to see how they would respond as league action returned last night. Having not played in the league since winning 3-1 at Wick on 6 th September, Newhaven took on Shoreham at Fort Road, looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign. Shoreham started the season well, winning three of their opening four league fixtures, but have tailed off a bit in recent weeks, and headed to Fort Road on the back of just one win in their last six matches. And that via a shoot-out. Early-on, there was no sign of any lingering hangover from the two cup defeats we’ve suffered in the past week. The Dockers flew out of the blocks and could have been ahead after just two minutes, when Ezra Roeg flew down the left and crossed for Lee Robinson, who couldn’t ...

Off-key Dockers crash out of the Vase

Newhaven 1 Faversham Strike Force 3, FA Vase Second Qualifying Round, Saturday 20 th September Newhaven’s run of three consecutive cup games culminated with an FA Vase match against Faversham Strike Force. Having progressed in the Sussex Senior Cup prior to being beaten on penalties in the RUR Cup, hopes were high that we could progress in the Vase – arguable the most prestigious cup competition for teams at this level, with reward for the finalists being a trip to Wembley. Standing in our way of progressing were SCEFL Premier Division side Faversham Strike Force, who have won three and drawn one of their opening eight league matches, but arrived at Fort Road on the back of three straight defeats. Prior to the match – and indeed post-match as well – there were celebrations for striker Lee Robinson’s amazing recent feat of reaching 500 competitive goals for the club. You may have heard about it! Unfortunately, events on the pitch couldn’t match the celebratory mood of those o...

Shoot-out heartache for plucky Dockers

Peacehaven and Telscombe 3 Newhaven 3, RUR Cup Round 1, Tuesday 16 th September 2025 Newhaven made the short journey west to Peacehaven last night for an opening round match in the RUR Cup. Peacehaven have been inconsistent in the early weeks of the season having gained just nine points from their opening seven games. In spite of this, they are still among the favourites for a play-off spot this season, and the Dockers went into the match knowing that when it comes to local derbies form often goes out of the window. On a blustery evening, the opening ten minutes or so saw both teams struggling to get to grips with the conditions with little to shout about in terms of goalmouth action. This changed in the 12 th minutes, when the hosts created the first opportunity of the evening with a curling effort from the edge of the area that went just over. Within a minute, they were within inches of taking the lead, when the ball struck the bar and somehow stayed out. It wasn’t to mat...

Promising display sees Dockers advance

Newhaven 2 Forest Row 0, Sussex Senior Cup Round 1, Tuesday 9 th September 2025 The first in a run of three consecutive cup matches took place last night with Forest Row’s visit to Fort Road in the opening round of the Sussex Senior Cup. Newly promoted Forest Row have enjoyed a positive start at a higher level, although did arrive in Newhaven on the back of a hefty defeat to title favourites Haywards Heath on Saturday. With the Dockers missing a few key players, this was arguably Newhaven’s toughest test so far this season. A real test to see exactly where we are at. Having scraped to three points on Saturday after a largely unconvincing performance at struggling Wick, it was almost certain a similar showing would get punished last night. Fortunately, last night saw a much-improved Dockers performance. Arguably their finest of the campaign so far. It was without doubt the best game to watch involving Newhaven this year as well, with both teams looking to play good football, ...

Scrappy victory, but a win’s a win!

Wick 1 Newhaven 3, SCFL Premier Division match #6, Saturday 6 th September 2025 Having navigated the first month of the league season unbeaten, the Dockers headed west to Wick yesterday afternoon to kick-start the second month of the campaign. Conversely, Wick have struggled in the early stages of the season, going into the match bottom of the table and without a point to show for their efforts. However, as Newhaven learned to their cost on a couple of occasions last season, every team will get a win at some point during the season, so why not against us! After the opening 25 minutes yesterday, we were somewhat fortunate not to be out of the game already, with the hosts looking nailed-on for their first three-points of the season. Were it not for a combination of profligate finishing and a couple of fine Roman Chisora saves, we could easily have been three down with just 22 minutes on the clock. Not that Wick were looking overly steady at the back, mind you, with Teddy Wood ...
